4. Systematic Sampling-

     Also known as Shortcut method of random sampling

     Units of the population are arranged - Numerically, geographically or alphabetically

     you randomly select a starting point

     From there onwards, every Kth person on the list is selected

 

     Population = 100 students

     10 are to be selected

     All 100 students would be numbered and systematically arranged

     If the first randomly selected number is 5th Item, Then the subsequent numbers would be 15th 25 35 45 55 65 75 85 and 95th Item.

 

Merits-

     Very simple method, sample is easily determined

     Hardly any possibility of personal bias

 

Demerits-

     Because only first item is selected on random basis, every item in the population does not get equal chance of being selected

     This method serves no specific purpose if all the items in the population are homogeneous.
