4. Systematic Sampling-
● Also known as Shortcut method of random sampling
● Units of the population are arranged - Numerically, geographically or alphabetically
○ you randomly select a starting point
○ From there onwards, every Kth person on the list is selected
● Population = 100 students ● 10 are to be selected ● All 100 students would be numbered and systematically arranged ● If the first randomly selected number is 5th Item, Then the subsequent numbers would be 15th 25 35 45 55 65 75 85 and 95th Item. |
Merits-
● Very simple method, sample is easily determined
● Hardly any possibility of personal bias
Demerits-
● Because only first item is selected on random basis, every item in the population does not get equal chance of being selected
● This method serves no specific purpose if all the items in the population are homogeneous.
