Learning Outcomes:- Through
this module, you will gain understanding on:- 1.
Frequency Curve 2.
Ogive or Cumulative Frequency Curve 3. Two ways for constructing an Ogive |
Types of diagrammatic presentation of Data -
1. Geometric form ●
Bar diagrams ●
Pie Diagrams |
2. Frequency
diagrams ●
Histogram ●
Frequency Polygon ●
Frequency Curve ✔ ●
Ogive or Cumulative
Frequency Curve ✔ |
3. arithmetic line-graphs OR Time Series Graphs |
(B-3) Frequency Curve -
● A variant of polygon
● Plotted by joining the mid-points of all tops of a histogram by freehand smoothed curve NOT by a straight line using Scale as in the case of Polygon!
● Area of a frequency curve is equal to the area of a histogram or polygon of a given data set
● Eliminate angularity of polygon while drawing a frequency curve
1. First, convert given data set into a histogram
2. Mark mid-points of tops of rectangles of histogram
3. Join these points through a freehand smoothed curve
(B-4) Ogive or Cumulative Frequency Curve -
● Constructed by plotting cumulative frequencies on graph paper and joining them through a freehand smoothed curve
Two ways for constructing an Ogive -
1. Less than Upper Limit method -
● Starting from 1st class interval, we go on adding the frequencies
● cumulative total tends to increase
2. More than Lower Limit method -
● We take sum total of frequencies, and beginning with 1st class interval, we go on subtracting the frequencies
● cumulative total tends to decrease
