Statistical Errors - Sampling Errors AND Non Sampling Errors | Types of Measurement Scales
Learning Outcomes:- Through this
module, you will gain understanding on:- 1. Statistical errors |
Statistical errors
Sampling errors
Non sampling errors
● Larger investigation field, larger population size = Greater possibility of errors in data collection
Sampling errors-
● Related to size or nature of the sample selected for study
● Due to-
1) Very small size of sample
2) Non representative nature of sample
Sampling error = Estimated value of parameter - True value of parameter
● Can be minimized by opting for a larger sample size
Non sampling errors-
● Related to Collection of data
● Due to-
1) Difference in measurement scale
2) Difference in rounding off procedure adopted by different investigators
3) Respondents do not offer the required information
4) Respondent fails to interpret the questions in the questionnaire
5) Calculation errors/ arithmetical errors
6) Sampling bias - for some reason, a part of target population is not included in the choice of sample
● Is more serious - can NOT be minimized by opting for a larger sample size
