A) Published Sources:

openly available for General Public Access

1.    Publications by ministries of Central and state government (NSSO, DGCIS, Labour Bureau)

2.    Data published by municipalities and Metropolitan Councils (Semi-Government Bodies)

3.    Statistical reports furnished by various committees and commissions appointed by the government

4.    Publications of trade associations

5.    Various journals, newspapers, magazines

6.    Research work published by individual research scholars

7.    Publications by International organizations (UNO, IMF, WB, ILO)

 

B) Unpublished Sources:

records privately held for own personal use

 

1.    Statistics maintained by different departments and agencies of the central and the state government, undertakings, corporations, etc. for their self use or office record

2.    records that are maintained by private firms and business enterprises

3.    research works conducted by teachers, professors, and professionals

Precautions in the use Secondary Data -

One needs to be very careful while using secondary data because it has been collected by others to suit their specific requirements.

 

★ Assess the reliability, suitability and adequacy of the data

 

CHECK IF?...

     the data is collected by able, experienced and impartial investigators

     the objective and scope of the study as undertaken matches yours

     The method adopted for data collection matches the nature of your investigation

     Note the time period and conditions of Investigation

     Make sure the measurement unit of data is the same as adopted in the present study

     Data should be checked for its reasonable accuracy
