★ Presentation of data = Exhibition of data in such a clear and attractive manner that these are easily understood and analysed

3. Diagrammatic - Bar diagram, pie, polygon, ogive, time series graph etc.
1. Textual or descriptive Presentation -
● Data are a part of text of study
● Statistical facts are written within paragraph lines
● Data are a part of description of subject matter of study
Eg. In a strike call given by the trade unions of shoe making industry in the city of Delhi, 50% of the workers reported for the duty, and only 2 out of the 20 industries in the city were totally closed. |
Suitable -
● Quantum of data is not very large
Merits -
● Useful supportive evidence to qualitative observations
Price of gold is Skyrocketing
Price of gold has risen by 50% during the financial year 2011-12 (More meaningful and precise)
Drawbacks -
● A person has to go through the entire text before quantitative facts about a phenomenon become evident
● Does not offer Reader anything at a mere glance of text matter
● He must read and comprehend the entire text
2. Tabular Presentation -
Tabulation = a Process involving orderly and systematically presenting numerical data in the form of rows and columns
Table = systematic and orderly arrangement of data in rows and columns | a result of Tabulation process
Rows = horizontal
Columns = vertical
Components of a table -
1. Table number - Facilities location
2. Title - Written in bold letters, attract attention, simple, clear, short but complete, must reveal problem under consideration, duration of study, place of study, nature of data classification
3. Headnote - Supplementary to title, Completes information in title, Preferably in brackets, Generally expresses unit of data
4. Stubs - titles of rows
5. Caption - title of columns
6. Body or field - totality of values of various items in the table, most important part, each item of body = a cell
7. Footnotes = for clarification, supplements table info
8. Source - of secondary data (if so), below the Footnote,
Name of publication, publisher, year, reference page number
