Median value of
a series may also be determined through graphic
presentation of data in the form of ogives
(also known as Cumulative Frequency Curve: less than/more than Ogive)

This may be
done in 2 ways -
1.
Presenting
data graphically in the form of less than OR more than Ogives
2.
Simultaneously
Presenting data graphically in the form of less than AND more than Ogives i.e.
The two Ogives are superimposed upon each other to determine the median value
1.
less than OR more than
Ogives Approach -
Steps:-
1.
Frequency
distribution series: first converted into less than OR more than Cumulative
Series
2.
Data
are presented graphically to make an Ogive
3.
Find
out N/2 th Item and mark it on Y-Axis (vertically)
4.
From
this Point on Y-Axis, a Perpendicular is drawn to the right to cut the cumulative
frequency curve at Point E
Perpendicular = at an angle of 90° to another line or surface
5.
From
Point E, where cumulative frequency curve is cut, draw a Perpendicular to
X-Axis
6. The point at which it touches X-axis will be the median value of the series
2.
less than AND more than
Ogives Approach -
Simultaneously
Presenting data graphically in the form of less than AND more than Ogives i.e.
The two Ogives are superimposed upon
each other to determine the median value
Steps:-
1.
Mark
Point E where both Ogive Curves CUT each
other
2.
From
Point E, draw a Perpendicular to the X-Axis (horizontally placed)
3. Corresponding value on the X-axis would be the median value.
