A) Direct Personal Investigation

B) Indirect Oral Investigation

C) Information from Local Sources or Correspondents

D) Information through Questionnaires and Schedules:-

D-i)  Mailing Method

D-ii) Enumerator’s Method

 

A) Direct Personal Investigation-

●     Investigator personally collects the data from informants

●     Investigator establishes a direct relation with persons from whom the information is to be obtained

Suitability-

●     Limited or not very large investigation field

●     greater degree of original data required

●     Keeping information secret

●     Data accuracy is significant

Merits-

1.    Data has high originality, reliability and Is fairly accurate

2.    Direct contact helps to obtain other related information as well

3.    Data is uniformly collected by investigator himself, which facilitates comparison

4.    Investigator can make necessary adjustments in his questions

Demerits-

1.    Difficult to cover wide study area

2.    Highly prone to personal bias of investigator

3.    Expensive in terms of time, money and efforts involved

4.    Less representative, limited coverage
