Primary Data

Secondary Data

     Collected by the investigator for his own purpose for the first time

     Collected from the source of origin

     Is original

     First-hand information

     Do not need any adjustment as it is related to a specific objective of the investigator

     Is costlier in terms of time, money and efforts involved because it is to be collected for the very first time from its source of origin

     Already in existence (not original)

     Data collected by other persons

     Have been collected for some other purpose than answering of the question in hand

     Second-hand data

     Available in the form of published or unpublished reports

     Need to be adjusted to suit the objective of study in hand as data has been collected for some other purpose

     Much less expensive
