Concepts of Census and Sample-
There are 2,000 students
in a college. An investigator wants to collect data regarding their family
background.
1. Census method-
○ collecting information relating to all the students
○ Statistical enquiry based on covering all items of the universe
2. Sample method-
○ collecting information relating to some students who would represent all the students
○ Covering only a sample (a part) of the universe
○ Characteristics of the sample are supposed to represent characteristics of the entire universe
3. Universe/Population-
○ An aggregate of items to be studied for an investigation
○ Aggregate of all items about which we want to obtain information e.g. 2,000 students
○ Each unit of population is called an item.
