CENSUS
Method-
● Data are collected covering every item of the universe or population relating to the problem under investigation
● implies complete enumeration (गणना)

● Comprehensive source of secondary data on Indian Demography

● Less biased - Absence of investigator’s choice regarding selection of sample items
● Extensive and more meaningful information - all items of Universe are examined
● Can study diverse characteristics of the universe
● Only method suitable when items in a universe are of complex nature and it is necessary to study each item
● Can be successfully used in indirect investigation of related issues
Demerits (Census Method)-
● Very costly, generally not used for ordinary investigations, only government or big Institutions can afford, For specific purpose only
● Requires a lot of Manpower, training of enumerators becomes essential, difficult process
● Becomes practically inoperable if the universe comprises of large number of items
