2-Types of BAR DIAGRAMS; Simple, Multiple, Sub-divided OR Differential Bar Diagrams
Learning Outcomes:- Through this module, you will gain understanding on:- 1. Names of Types of diagrammatic presentation of Data 2. Bar diagrams - a kind of Geometric form 3. BAR and its Features 4. Types of BAR DIAGRAMS |
Names of…
Types of diagrammatic presentation -
1. Geometric form ● Bar diagrams ● Pie Diagrams | 2. Frequency diagrams ● Histogram ● Polygon ● Ogive | 3. arithmetic line-graphs OR Time Series Graphs |
(A) Geometric form of diagrammatic presentation of data -
(A-1) Bar Diagrams
● In which data are presented in form of bars or rectangles
● Bars are also called Columns
BAR and its Features -
● Rectangular form
● Length (height) of bars differs according to different values of variable
● Breadth (width) of bars remains the same
● Bars may be either vertical (usually) or horizontally placed
● Bars are equidistant (समान दूरी पर स्थित) from each other
● Baseline for all bars is common
● Data should be presented to form bars of ascending or descending order
Types of BAR DIAGRAMS -
(A-1-i) Simple Bar Diagrams -
● Are based on single set of numerical data
● More useful to present
○ time series data such as Birth rate, death rate according to census surveys
○ Individual value like Weight of students
○ Geographical conditions like per capita income in different states
A-1-i Simple Bar Diagram (vertical)
# Birth Rate in India according to Census Survey of different Years -
(single set of data)
A-1-ii Simple Bar Diagram (horizontal)
# Marks Obtained by different Categories of Students -
(A-1-ii) Multiple Bar Diagrams -
● Show behaviour of two or more sets of data simultaneously
● Generally used to make comparison between two set of series
● Separate Bars are drawn to present separate sets of values
● Bars are differentiated by colors
# Birth & Death Rate in India as per Census Reports b/w 1971-80 to 2013-14 (per thousand)-
(A-1-iii) Sub-divided OR Differential Bar Diagrams -
● present total value as well as part values of a data set, simultaneously
● Different parts of each bar are shaded with colours for differentiation
● Percentage bar diagram is generally used when values are of high magnitude
(A-1-iv) Percentage Bar Diagrams -
● A form of Sub-divided Bar Diagram
● Show different Part Values of a Data Set in Percentage Terms
● Total Value (Total Bar Length) is assumed to be 100
● Each Part Value is shown as a Part of 100
● Parts may be shaded with different colours to highlight the difference
(A-1-v) Deviation Bar Diagrams - related
● Used to compare the net deviation of related variables with respect to time and location
● Bars representing Positive deviations = drawn Above baseline
● Bars representing Negative deviations = drawn Below baseline
● Represent deviations in magnitude as well as in direction
