2. Frequency series (With frequencies)
2.a Frequency Array (OR Discrete Series)
2.b Frequency Distribution (OR Series with Class Intervals)
Meaning of some important terms -
Frequency
● Number of times an item occurs or repeat itself in series
● Eg. 4 students have secured 10 marks
Frequency of 10 is 4
Class frequency
● Number of times an item repeats itself corresponding to a class interval (range of value)
● Eg. There are four students securing marks between 10-15
4 Is the frequency corresponding to the class interval 10-15
Tally Bars
● Every time an item occurs, a Tally Bar (|) is marked against it
● Two Tally Bars would mean that the concerned item has occurred twice in the series
● After every four Tallies, the fifth Tally will cross out all the previous four tallies, thus, making a group of five
● This method of marking and counting is known as four and cross method
2.a Frequency Array (OR Discrete Series)
● Exact measurements of data items are clearly shown
● No class intervals
● Items of series are arranged in ascending or descending order
● Frequencies are noted in front of each item
